Women's Cooperative in Bangalore, India
The objective of this ongoing project is to provide a way for rural Indian women, who have traditionally been completely dependent on their husbands, to develop an independent source of income while empowering them to stand up for their human rights.
The manufacture of handmade paper is a traditional rural industry in India. While mill paper sources 70% of its raw material from trees, leading to the large scale destruction of forests, handmade paper is eco-friendly. Arivu/Peace Child India is keen to promote handmade paper products as a sustainable income for village women, who have historically been oppressed and marginalized by society.
Cost: ongoing but $1500 is the goal
