8 Hour Skate for YOUCAN
Ottawa, ON - September 20, 2008

On Saturday September 20, participants of all ages will raise pledges while enjoying a day of skateboarding, or carving the 8km course on their longboards. The day will be filled with music, prizes, a charity auction and other exciting activities.

Registration cost per individual is $15, which includes a T-shirt from Top of the World, lunch, some refreshments, a chance to win some great prizes, and a day of stellar skating.

This incredible event will help raise money for YOUCAN, an non-profit organization focused on youth-led initiatives in non-violent conflict resolution and violence prevention, both nationally and internationally. Their mission is to equip and inspire others to peacefully resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities.

Our vision is to foster "a nation where all youth work in partnership with their communities to grow in peaceful and conflict resolving lifestyles."

Our core objectives are:

* To promote the peaceful resolution of personal, community and societal conflicts.
* To promote the concept of non-violence, peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
* To establish a Canadian and International network of youth peacebuilders.
* To highlight and affirm the work of peacebuilders of all ages, especially that of young Canadians.

Crime prevention, conflict resolution and violence prevention programs have been in Canada for many years. One of the largest gaps identified in the ongoing research has been the networking of programs, ideas, stories and resources in the area of conflict resolution for-youth-by-youth.

YOUCAN was founded due to a need for a youth led organization that focused on developing solutions for youth issues. It strives to promote a message of non-violence in our communities and our schools. YOUCAN is committed to focusing on peaceful conflict resolution, the prevention of violence and consensus building through youth led initiatives.
