Along with founder Susan Hawkins, and four youth directors, the organization is run almost entirely by young volunteers from across central and eastern Canada. Click on a person's name or a picture to meet our staff.
Katie Paroschy is currently finishing her second year of Environmental Sciences and biology at Trent University. Katie is deeply involved with Trent’s action environmental group, Sustainable Trent. Sustainable Trent, similar to the design of Peace Child and Rescue Mission, is totally student run, with professor and university facility involvement in a round table environment. Recently Sustainable Trent received a student voted levy, which will bring in thousands of dollars to fund student environmental initiatives and allow for the continuance of the lug-a-mug program, the graduation green pledge, campus waste reduction through educational campaigning and many more activities and programs.
Katie will be spending her third year of study at the University of Plymouth where she hopes to learn as much about the English culture and environmental sciences as she can.
In the past Katie was extremely lucky to take part in the second and third world youth congresses, as well as have some input on the planning of the 2008 WYC in Quebec. Also to prepare for the next congress Katie has attempted to learn French through the explore program (there is a long way to go). She is very excited for 2008 and thinks it will be the best and most sustainable congress yet!
Katie loves working with Rescue Mission on a local and global scale and has seen what it can do to shape the lives of youth. It is her hope to stay involved for years to come to make the world a better place.
