Along with founder Susan Hawkins, and four youth directors, the organization is run almost entirely by young volunteers from across central and eastern Canada. Click on a person's name or a picture to meet our staff.
After the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 - and the subsequent publishing of the children's edition of Agenda 21 (Rescue Mission: Planet Earth) - Susan first envisioned Rescue Mission Canada. She started by challenging a classroom full of students ready to enter secondary school and now, years later, passionately empowers a group of inspired young individuals who are driven to impact their world in a positive way.
Since 2004, she has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Youth Movement for Peace and Non-Violence in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and sits, as well, on the Board of Directors for the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation. She is also a member of the International Advisory Committee to plan World Youth Congresses, and with the recent announcement that the 4th World Youth Congress will be held in Quebec City in 2008, Susan is excited to be part of the planning committee in Canada for that event, encouraging the design and development of the post-Congress Action Projects. Most recently, she is involved with the World Toilet Association Assembly, to be held in Seoul, Korea in November of 2007.
Outside of Rescue Mission, Susan is the Executive Director for the PEI Environmental Network in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
